Men's Basketball beats nationally ranked Oakland Community College 92-83
Delta College delivered its most impressive performance of the season on Thursday night, defeating 13th-ranked Oakland Community College, 92-83, on its home floor. After trailing by seven at halftime, the Pioneers erupted for 57 second-half points to stun the Owls and improve their record to 3-4.
Leading the charge was sophomore guard Sir Real Smith, who poured in a career-high 40 points on 17-of-25 shooting, including five three-pointers. Smith was relentless, scoring from all levels and attacking the Oakland defense throughout the second half. His dominant offensive display powered the Pioneers to a comeback victory against one of the top teams in the region.
Jaylen Carthan had a complete performance, finishing with 14 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds in 37 minutes. His poise and playmaking were crucial in keeping Delta's offense balanced while Smith drew the defensive focus. Carthan also contributed two steals on the defensive end.
Delta received key bench contributions as well. Darrion Youngblood added 10 points and two assists in 28 minutes of action, providing consistent energy and hustle. Evan Booker chipped in with seven points and one steal in just 13 minutes, while Dovydas Kačinskas scored seven points and pulled down five rebounds, including three on the offensive glass.
The Pioneers shot 51.4 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from deep while limiting Oakland to just 49.3 percent shooting overall. Despite being outshot at the free throw line and narrowly edged in total rebounds, Delta controlled the second half with sharper execution and defensive stops when it mattered most.
Delta trailed 42-35 at halftime but quickly found rhythm coming out of the break. Behind a string of three-pointers and aggressive drives, they overtook the Owls midway through the second half and never looked back.
