University Center, MI – The Delta College Men's Basketball team faced a tough test Monday night, falling to Schoolcraft College, 82–66.
Delta kept pace early, trailing just 36–31 at the end of the first half despite shooting 36.4% from the field. The Pioneers battled on the glass and attacked the rim, but Schoolcraft's efficiency and depth proved to be the difference.
In the second half, Schoolcraft pulled away, outscoring Delta 46–35. The Ocelots shot an improved 44.4% after halftime and capitalized at the free-throw line, finishing the game at 76.5% from the stripe.
Both Dovydas Kachinskas and Deontrey Gary led the Pioneers with 18 points. Gary shot 7-for-14 from the field and added four rebounds. Brady Belcher chipped in 7 points, while Jaylen Carthan added 10 points and five rebounds. Darrian Youngblood contributed defensively with two rebounds and steady minutes at guard.
Delta finished the game shooting 38.5% from the floor and 32.1% from beyond the arc, but turnovers and free-throw opportunities ultimately swung momentum in favor of Schoolcraft.
The Pioneers will go into a short break, facing Wayne County CC on Friday at 7:30 PM.
