Delta College Pioneers posted a solid fifth‑place finish at the Jackson College Invitational on Friday, carding a team total of 319 (+31) at the Par‑72, 6,432‑yard Arbor Hills layout. Mott Community College claimed the team crown at 303 (+15), while Montcalm CC's Mason Blair took medalist honors with a one‑over‑par 73.
After an opening 78 from Carson Shampo (+10), Delta found its groove through the middle of the lineup. Tied for third individually, sophomore Owen Halstead delivered a three‑over‑par 75, matching Mott's Brady Bettely and Marian's AJ Liguori. Kevin Groulx and Odin Medrick each shot even‑par starts to sit at +7 (79) and +8 (80), respectively, inside the top‑30. Senior Nathan Cleghorn (+12, 84) and freshman Jake Look (+18, 90) rounded out the roster.
Teams battled a stiff breeze off nearby Lake Jackson all day, and only two golfers broke par: medalist Blair shot an opening birdie on No. 2 before totaling one bogey-free round, and Montcalm's Jerald Brownell posted a 76 (+4) to help his squad to second place at 304 (+16). Marian U‑Ancilla (314, +26) and Grand Rapids CC (316, +28) rounded out the top four.
