Softball Drops Two in Opener

Continue spring trip tomorrow with double-header

Orlando, FL – The Delta College women's softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday as they kicked off the 2016 season in Orlando, Florida by taking on a couple of teams from back home. 

Game one saw Mott Community College jump out to a 2-0 lead in the third before adding three in the fifth to defeat the Pioneers, 7-2.  Delta would cut in to a 5-0 game with two runs of their own in the sixth but it wasn't enough. 
 
"It was our first game off the bus and our bats were slow to wake up," said first year coach Randy Mullard.   
 
Leading the offense for DC was Cassidy Reichard with two hits while Taylor Wozniak went two-for-three and Jensen Tchorzynski added a double.  Tchorzynski also took the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs while striking out four and walking two. 

The second game of the day saw Kalamazoo Valley Community College jump out to 6-0 lead after the first inning before the Delta bats came to life.  The Pioneers plated five runs in the second to get back in the game and continued to battle every inning before eventually losing, 11-8.

Tchorzynski led the offense in the loss, collecting two hits including a homerun to go along with two RBI.  Wozniak added three RBI's offensively while Katlyn Blake took the loss on the mound after allowing four earned runs in the first three innings. 

"It's hard to win when you basically give your opponent a six run head start, but we fought back and never quit," said Mullard. 

The Pioneers play a double-header tomorrow, facing Region XII opponent Owens before taking on Mercyhurst Northeast.
