Interim Tags Removed from Head Softball Coach Shelly Petoskey and Associate Head Coach Scott Gauthie
Delta College is proud to announce that Shelly Petoskey has officially been named the Head Coach of the Softball team; Scott Gauthier has been named Associate Head Coach with the interim tags now removed.
Shelly Petoskey was brought in during late March to take the lead of the team, and she made an immediate impact. Under her leadership, the team experienced a remarkable turnaround, going on to win the NJCAA Division III Region 12 Championship. Her efforts didn't go unnoticed, as she was also named the NJCAA Region 12 Division III Coach of the Year.
We sat down with Director of Athletics and Student Development Brad Barlog and Head Softball Coach Shelly Petoskey to get their thoughts on the announcement.
"I am very proud to announce the removal of the "Interim" tag of our new permanent Head Softball Coach Shelly Petoskey. Shelly began laying a positive foundation with our softball team halfway through the year and has never turned back. Coming halfway through the spring season, she not only managed to win our Regionals by securing the DIII Region 12 title but was also named Region 12 Division III Coach of the year in our region, with only being an interim coach. Shelly has demonstrated her commitment and dedication to our softball team and student-athletes and is very deserving of this change. This move will provide stability for current players, knowing Shelly will be leading them in the future as well as help bring in new students. In addition to Coach Shelly Petoskey's interim tag being removed as the Head Softball Coach, Coach Scott Gauthier, who has been a volunteer Delta Softball coach for many years, has also had his interim tag removed as Associate Head Softball Coach. We are so excited to add Scott to the official coaching staff.
