Delta Drops Second Game In a Row

Cincinnati, OH – Looking to overcome a setback from Sunday, the Lady Pioneers traveled to a very good opponent in Cincinnati State CC for a Region XII contest on Friday only to find out why the Surge are so good.  With a team that averages 4.3 goals per game while allowing just 1.7 per, the Pioneers knew they would have to take advantages of any breaks they could. 

But those breaks never came and Delta dropped a 6-1 decision to fall to 4-5 overall on the season while Cincinnati ups its record to 10-2.

Both teams played straight up for fifteen minutes before the Surge broke through with an unassisted goal.  Five minutes later they upped their lead to 2-0 before finding the back of the next three more times over the course of the first half to take an insurmountable lead into half time, 5-0.

"They were extremely efficient on their scoring opportunities," said head coach Gary Stenglein.  "Their forwards are extremely skilled, fast and organized.  Their passes were made with pinpoint accuracy and that caused us tremendous difficulty in the first half."

Delta finally got in to the scoring column in the 83^rd minute with the score 6-0.  Jessica Hegenauer scored an unassisted goal to prevent the shutout.  Overall, Cincinnati put 12 shots on goal compared to seven for Delta.  On the season, the Surge average 18.1 shots per game.

"We played much better in the second half," said Stenglein.  "We just weren't patient enough in the first half.  But, we've got another challenging game on Sunday with Schoolcraft."

Currently, the Ocelots of Schoolcraft are undefeated on the season at 9-0 and ranked 15^th in the country.  They defeated Delta earlier this season, 7-0.  Game time is scheduled on the campus of Delta College for 1pm.
